Manchester City and Chelsea will lock horns in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday afternoon at Wembley Stadium. The reigning champions are pretty big favourites but the Blues from London have boosted the confidence with a staggering 6-0 thumping of Everton on Monday Night football. Can Chelsea cause an upset on the back of such a scintillating performance at Stamford Bridge?

Chelsea have gone through rough times so far in the season. While we can argue about the lack of meticulousness in their back line, Chelsea’s attacking prowess has been second to none in recent weeks. Mauricio Pochettino’s men have put six unanswered goals past Everton on Monday evening. Their best player Cole Palmer signed four of these six. As unbelievable as it sounds, Palmer is now the joint-top scorer in the Premier League alongside Man City’s Erling Haaland.

As for the Citizens, they’ve been somewhat busier during the week. They also had a very productive last weekend, bagging five goals in a comprehensive home victory over Luton Town. The win launched the defending treble winners to the top of the Premier League standings following slip-ups from both of their title rivals. Pep Guardiola’s men were also in action on Wednesday evening in the return leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie against Real Madrid at Etihad Stadium.

Latest Meetings

Manchester City have not dropped too many points this season. However, they have failed to beat Chelsea in either of the two Premier League clashes this term. Both ended in draws, including a spectacular 4-4 stalemate in November last year at Stamford Bridge.

The Citizens still go into this on the back of six wins and two draws in the previous eight encounters with Chelsea. Both teams were on target just twice in the last nine H2H affairs.

Chelsea are unbeaten in eight successive games across competitions as well as in both head-to-head encounters against Man City this season.

That said, we have to consider the Citizens as heavy favourites on Saturday. Manchester City seem to have found their famous lethal attacking rhythm of late. They notched at least four goals in each of the previous three Premier League affairs. They have also put three goals past Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final tie away in Spanish capital.

Pep Guardiola’s men should have plenty of room to deliver in the final third here knowing that Chelsea conceded at least two goals in all but one of their last eight matches in all competitions.

Erling Haaland has not been at his usual best since coming back from the injury that kept him sidelined for quite a while earlier this year. The Norwegian striker did get a goal and an assist in the 5-1 thumping of Luton seven days ago.
