BATE vs PSV Eindhoven
2018-19 Champions League Qualification Play-off
Date: Tuesday, 21 August 2018
Kick-off at 20:00 UK/ 21:00 CET
Venue: Borisov Arena (Barysaw).
PSV start their bid to qualify for the Champions League this Tuesday on the back of winning the Dutch Eredivisie last season.
The Rood-Witten can consider themselves to have made a confident start to the competitive season after bagging wins against Utrecht and the newly promoted Sittard.
It will be worth to note that this PSV side is now under the tutelage of a new manager, Mark van Bommel, who wore Barcelona and Bayern Munich jerseys in his career and made over 200 appearances for PSV.
BATE are normally here almost every season, but essentially jump the final hurdle. They were eliminated in the third round of Champions League qualifiers and eventually went on to appear in the Europa League group stage.
The start to BATE’s Champions League campaign this season is a slow one after managing narrow wins over HJK and Qarabag by exact 2-1 margin.
On the other hand, those two wins were achieved on the road, which means both the home games so far are stalemates. However, BATE has been one of the toughest team to beat at home, the only team to defeat them in a span of 12 games is none other than FC Barcelona (7w, 4d).
BATE vs PSV Head-to-head
The teams will be meeting for the first time in a competitive fixture this Tuesday.
BATE vs PSV Prediction
PSV have a quality squad and plays in a highly competitive league as in comparison to the Belarusian opponent.
However, BATE are more accustomed to play in this kind of double legged ties as they are in UEFA qualifiers every year.
Further, PSV’s record in Europa over the past couple of seasons is nothing but poor. They were knocked in the third round of the competition by Croatian outfit Osijek in the Europa League qualifiers last season and they were without a win in Champions League group stage a year ago.
These kind of state definitely encourage a side like BATE, who made the Borisov Arena a fortress over the years.
This is why I simply do not see PSV coming out with a win here.
