Yemen vs Iraq
Asia- AFC Asian Cup.
Date: Saturday, 12th January 2019.
Kick-Off at 13:30 UK/ 14:30 CET
Venue: Sharjah Stadium (Sharjah).
The Red Devils have suffered a disheartening loss to Iran in their group opener of the Asian Cup. They will look to better than performance as they face Iraq on Saturday.
The Qahtani Arabs are 135 in the latest FIFA Rankings and they justified it with their first group match against strong Iran. This was their 4th loss in the last 5 competitive fixtures. More than 2. 5goals were scored in 4 of those 5 games as well. The only win in all the 10 matches recently was against Nepal.
Head Coach Ján Kocian will need to rethink his strategy if he wishes to get his team to the knockout stages, which seems far away right now. This match will decide their future in the tournament for sure.
The Lions of Mesopotamia came from two times after conceding early against Vietnam in their opening group game. The Suzuki Cup champions took the lead early, but hard-working Iraq came back to draw the game and sealed a memorable victory with a late goal.
But the team have to work on defense after that match against Vietnam. In almost every preparation match on the way to the Asian Cup, they conceded goals. With teams like Iran and Yemen to come next, it will be a real headache for Coach Srečko Katanec.
In their previous 5 games, Iraq has won 3 games and all three of those matches had a score of over 2.5 goals in total. The Lions have scored 2 or more goals in 3 games in that spell as well.
This is actually a mismatch with respect to their current FIFA rankings, as they are 47 places apart. Iraq will definitely be the favourites to get 3 points from this Group D game.
Yemen vs Iraq: Head-to-head (h2h)
- Iraq has 5 wins in the 6 h2h matches between these two teams.
- Yemen is yet to win against this opposition in a competitive match.
- Iraq has scored 2 or more goals in 5 of those games as well.
Yemen vs Iraq: Prediction
The Red Devils were not able to keep pressure on Iran in their opening match. They had very little ball possession and failed to get at least one shot on target. Against Iraq, I think that will repeat most probably. Their goalkeeper will be tested multiple times from the start of the match. So we can bet on Iraq to win at both half time and full time with 1.87 odds.
Yemen was lucky enough that Iran stopped at 5 goals. Their keeper made 5 decisive saves or else Iran would have a 100% shot conversion rate. In their last 5 games, they conceded 10 goals each, i.e.; 2 goals per match. Since their opponents are on scoring form we can expect a score with over 2.5 goals and bet on the same with 1.80 odds.
