West Ham vs Macclesfield Town
English League Cup
Date: Wednesday, 26 September 2018
Kick-Off at 19:45 UK / 20:45 CET
Venue: London Stadium (London).
Macclesfield Town made a huge upset defeating Walsall on penalties in the second round of the League Cup. The Silkmen were lucky to bag a 91st-minute equalizer through Danny Whitaker at The Banks’s Stadium. Walsall then missed three of four penalties in the shootout series to suffer an early League Cup exit.
Mark Yates’ troops will thus have the honour of playing the top flight opposition on Wednesday evening when they travel to the capital to take on West Ham United at London Stadium. It will be a huge occasion for players who are three divisions below their counterparts.
To make things worse for Yates and his men, West Ham United’s form has seen a rise in the last couple of weeks. The hosts took four points from last two league outings against the likes of Everton and Chelsea and they will be enormous favourites to keep the good form going here against the struggling League Two opponents.
West Ham vs Macclesfield Town: Head-to-head
The two sides played each other just once in the past.
West Ham United took a demolishing 4-1 victory on the home patch (after extra-time, though) back in 2008 League Cup clash.
West Ham vs Macclesfield Town: Prediction
Not only there are three whole divisions separating the two teams, but the Silkmen are really struggling to put things together in League Two. They sit at the very foot of the standings in their respective league with just two points from nine games so far. They’ll come into this off the back of four straight losses in League Two.
The gulf in quality between the two sides is just massive and we’d really be shocked to see anything else but a confident victory for the Hammers on the evening, regardless of which squad Mauricio Pellegrini sends on the pitch.
West Ham United to have the lead at the half time and win the match at the end thus looks to be a genuine banker at the odds of 1.50.
