The opening round of the EFL Championship sees relegated West Bromwich taking on Bolton Wanderers. Albion got relegated last season from the Premier League while Bolton barely managed to keep their place in the league after getting promoted form League 1.
WBA had a disappointing season. The team fell short and lost its place in the English top flight football. Darren Moore lifted the spirits a bit after he became manager but it was not enough so save the team. A few good results just could not outdo the terrible season. Now the aim is clear – promotion and the young and ambitious manager will be hoping to deliver.
West Brom had a decent pre-season preparations winning 4 and drawing 1. Still their opponents were mostly lower profile sides. The highest profile team to play WBA in the preseason was Aberdeen and the game finished in a draw.
Bolton barely survived last season. The team had an atrocious start at which point the team looked doomed. Then there was a huge uplift. A lot of good results picking up points and darting forward. Then Wanderers saw another drop in performances. The team sold Gary Madine in the winter which was their main outlet up front. This hit the team hard and their from dropped making their survival to be decided on the last day.
Bolton didn’t have the best of pre-season preparations. The team played 5 games winning 2, drawing 2 and losing 1. Still most of the games were against lower profile teams which doesn’t give too much hope to the team. Bolton is still vulnerable and will be fighting again for its place.
