Austria Vienna vs Borussia Dortmund
Club Friendlies
Date: Friday, 13 July 2018
Kick-Off at 18:00 UK / 19:00 CET
Venue: Generali Arena, Vienna.
Borussia Dortmund will be Austria’s final test before the official kick off to the season in the Austrian Cup next weekend. The hosts are about to face an amateur side Austria III on Sunday, five days before the Bundesliga curtain raiser against Wacker Innsbruck.
Dortmund will, on the other side, travel to the United States where they will feature the International Champions Cup, starting as of next weekend. BVB will play the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Benfica there.
The team now led by Lucien Favre will certainly want to raise the spirits and take their preparations-period to the next level with a decent display against a respectable rival on Friday at Generali Arena.
Austria Vienna vs Borussia Dortmund: Head-to-head
- This will only be the third head to head encounter between the two teams.
- Borussia Dortmund came on top on both occasions when the two sides met in the opening round of the 2003 UEFA Europa League.
- The first leg in Vienna saw a 1-2 victory for BVB who only backed it up in reverse fixture winning 1-0 in front of the home crowd.
Austria Vienna vs Borussia Dortmund: Prediction
Dortmund will enter the new season with a slightly changed line-up. Important first-team regulars Andriy Yarmolenko and Sokratis are no longer there (the first one signed a West Ham United deal for €20m, while the latter joined Arsenal in a €16m move). The defense is strengthened with the former Mainz 05 centre back Abdou Diallo, while Thomas Delaney also joined the club from Werder Bremen.
This will be Borussia’s first match of the pre-season and their players’ physical condition is under a big question mark.
Thomas Letsch’s troops should be in an incomparably better fitness state and we expect them to take advantage of such circumstances and grab a result against a memorable opposition here.
Since Austria proved out to be very easy to break down in recent matches against Shakhtar Donetsk (0-3 loss) and Arsenal Tula (2-2 draw), we do expect goals, meaning the Over 2.5 goals FT should be a banker bet at 1.65 odds.
