Valencia vs Ebro Prediction & Match Preview

Valencia vs Ebro
Spanish Copa del Rey
Date: Tuesday, 4 December 2018
Kick-Off at 18:30 UK / 19:30 CET
Venue: Estadio de Mestalla (Valencia).

Ebro came on the brink of a massive upset when Jonan Amelibia pushed them in front just after the hour-mark of the first leg against Valencia in late-October. The third-division side offered a surprisingly strong resistance in general, but they could not hold on to the lead as Sati Mina turned it around for the Bats with a brace within nine minutes.

Valencia thus practically removed all doubts about the aggregate winner of this match-up as they are heavy favourites to clinch another victory in the reverse fixture at Mestalla. To make things worse for Ebro, Valencia will come into this in much higher spirits compared to the first match.

The Bats look to have found the wanted rhythm with three straight wins in all competitions. The thread was ended last week when Marcelino’s men showed a decent performance in a narrow 1-0 loss to Juventus in the Champions League. The defeat has ended Valencia’s UCL dreams even before the last round fixtures meaning they will likely take this cup tie in a more serious fashion.

Valencia vs Ebro: Head-to-head

This will only be the second head to head encounter between these two likes.

As described above, Valencia came on top when the two outfits met each other in the first leg of the last 32 Copa del Rey round in Zaragoza.

Valencia vs Ebro: Prediction

Ebro sit as low as 15th in the Group 3 of Segunda B Division. They will, however, enter this with an improved confidence after winning two on the bounce in their respective league. Obviously, it’s hard to see such run continued on Tuesday given the enormous gulf in quality between the two teams.

The Bats improved their defensive performances significantly of late and the clash with the third-tier opposition should give them a nice chance for another clean sheet. Marcelino will likely mix up his squad, but whoever gets to feature the starting line-up will fight to earn a better status in La Liga affairs. We expect a one-sided contest from the very start of the match and a comprehensive victory for the hosts at the end.
