USA vs Colombia
Date: Friday, 12th October 2018
Kick-off at 00:30 UK/ 01:30 CET
Venue: Raymond James Stadium (Tampa).
USA, following the disappointment of not qualifying for the World Cup for the first time since 1986, is desperately trying to rebuild their team, and also to bring back the fans’ lost trust in them.
Meantime, Colombia will be looking to build up on a positive start to life after a strong showing at the World Cups in Russia.
The US men’s national team is still without a permanent manager and Dave Sarachan will once again call the shots from the side-line.
USA’s form since the failure in World Cup qualifiers is decent and they bagged wins against the likes of Mexico, Paraguay and Bolivia, alongside priceless draws against France, Portugal and Bosnia. Two defeats happened in the period, which came against Brazil and Ireland.
Thus, 3 wins, 3 draws and 2 losses from 8 games is not bad for a team without permanent manager.
Colombia, on the other hand, is on a streak of good performances. It was unlucky that they had to go out of the world cup against England on penalties. But this strong cohesive group, with the likes of James Rodriguez, Radamel Falcao, Cuadrado, Yerry Mina etc give their fans a spectacular time period to look forward to.
The Coffee Growers played two friendlies in September, started off with a 2-1 win over Venezuela and finished off with a goal-less draw with Argentina.
USA vs Colombia Head-to-head
- Colombia won 4 of the last 5 meetings with USA in all competitions with the remaining 1 resulting in a stalemate.
- Also, the Los Cafeteros are unbeaten in their last 4 visits to the States with wins in the most recent three.
- Four of those five games saw under 2.5 goals. Meantime, 6 of the last 7 saw only one team getting on score sheet.
USA vs Colombia Prediction
Colombia will be looking to continue its fine run of recent matches. Against an inexperienced USA side, the visitors will be expected to put on a strong performance.
Players like Bayern-superstar James Rodriguez and Monaco talisman Radamel Falcao will prove the difference between these two sides.
USA made some improvements and are hoping to claw back to being a football powerhouse, but the journey has only just begun. They will have to take some hits before the aim is achieved.
This being a home match for the US and considering their recent slump, USA will be careful not to concede too many goals and turn this opportunity into an embarrassment.
I can see Colombia snatching a win here comfortably though it will be an exciting contest.
