UAE vs Australia
AFC Asian Cup.
Date: Friday, 25th January 2019.
Kick-Off at 16:00 UK/ 17:00 CET
Venue: Hazza bin Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi.
The hosts have gotten into the quarter-final of their own competition. They will have to face one of the heavyweights in Asia- Australia on Friday.
The Sons of Zayed are unbeaten in this edition of the Asian Cup. They started with a draw over Bahrain and followed it up with a win over India. After a 1-1 draw against Thailand, they topped the Group A and qualified for the knockout rounds.
Kyrgyzstan was a tough team to break down as the pre-quarter finished 2-2 in normal time. A penalty in extra time brought joy for the home fans. But with the reigning champs in the horizon, that joy may be short-lived.
Australia lost their opening game against Jordan with just a goal coming in that game. They came back strong winning both the remaining games in the group against Syria and Palestine.
But the last match against Uzbekistan might have troubled their ego, with a narrow win on penalties. Scoring past the Uzbek defense was quite impossible as every one of their players was back on defensive duties. The real hero of the show was their goalkeeper who made 9 important saves which could have made the score resemble a cricket score.
With the champions going against the hosts we can be sure of a record attendance at the ground. This may even go down to spot kicks at the Hazza Bin Zayed stadium.
UAE vs Australia: Head-to-head (h2h)
- Australia has won all the 3 competitive games against this opponent.
- All those 3 games had less than 2.5 goals in total and the Socceroos maintained a clean sheet in all of them as well.
UAE vs Australia: Prediction
Australia may have had a below-par tournament so far. But I don’t think they are to be written off against the Whites. This will be the toughest opponent that UAE will face until now in the tournament. So we can bet on the Socceroos to win and progress to the semi-finals with 2.00 odds.
Since this is a knockout match, I expect both the teams to play defensively. Australia has not been great at scoring, so they will look for goals from counter attacks. The hosts, however, has scored plenty on their way here. But against the team from down under Alberto Zaccheroni would not let his team roam free. Thus a bet can be placed on a score with less than 2.5 goals with 1.60 odds.
