Sporting CP vs Marseille Predictions and Preview

Sporting CP vs Olympique Marseille
Club Friendlies
Date: Saturday, 28 July 2018
Kick-Off at 20:30 UK / 21:30 CET
Venue: Estadio Jose Alvalade, Lisbon.

Both Sporting CP and Olympique Marseille barely missed out on the Champions league spots for this season finishing just below the line in their respective leagues. The Lions went through a turbulent period in the finish of the previous campaign which resulted in a host of departures this summer.

Gelson Martins, Bryan Ruiz, Rui Patricio, Heldon, Tobias Figueiredo, Cristian Piccini and William Carvalho are only some of the names which left Estadio Jose Alvalade. The head coach Jorge Jesus was also dismissed as Jose Peseiro took charge. The Portuguese manager has a huge task ahead of him to bed in all of the new arrivals and raise the spirits inside the dressing room after some horrible scenes in the finish of the last Primeira Liga season.

Peseiro got off to a fine start as the Lions saw off French outfit Nice 0-1 in last weekend’s friendly thanks to a goal from the right-winger Matheus Pereira who returned from loan at Chaves. Can the Portuguese giants maintain the fine form and get the result when they host Olympique Marseille?

Sporting CP vs Marseille Head-to-head

The two sides played each other exactly one year ago when the Phocians took a 2-1 victory in a pre-season friendly.

It was the only previous head to head encounter between Sporting and Marseille.

Sporting CP vs Marseille Prediction

Unlike Sporting, Marseille started the preparations period earlier and they’ve already had three strong tests. The Phocians won, drew and lost one apiece as each of ties saw goals at both ends. Kostas Mitroglou was inspired against Nantes and Villarreal, while defender Tomas Hubocan and striker Clinton N’Jie found the net in a 2-3 loss to Real Betis in mid-week.

The head coach Rudi Garcia clearly has woes with the lack of the meticulousness in his team’s defensive line in recent tests. Sporting have weapons to exploit Marseille’s defensive holes and backing the BTTS pick just looks to be the way to go here.

As for the outcome, it can really go either way, but we’ll shoot for the draw which somehow appears to be the most likable of three.
