Sporting CP vs Boavista
Portuguese Primeira Liga
Date: 12 March 2023, Sunday
Kick-off at 20:30 UK / 21:30 CET
Venue: Estadio Jose Alvalade (Lisbon).
Sporting CP will return to the domestic duties just three days after the Europa League clash against the current Premier League leaders Arsenal.
Ruben Amorim’s troops will be hoping to extend the Primeira Liga winning streak to four games on Sunday evening when they host Boavista at Estadio Jose Alvalade.
Sporting struggled a lot to break the deadlock last Saturday away at Portimonense but they eventually found the late winner through substitute Paulinho.
The victory helped Amorim’s squad keep ground on the main rivals in the battle for the top two positions, primarily Porto who are seven points away at the moment.
The hosts can thus ill afford a slip-up on Sunday against Boavista who have played much better football at home than on the road so far in the campaign.
While they have lost just two of twelve league outings in their own backyard, Boavista have seven defeats in eleven away fixtures.
They did not offer much in the final third in the last Friday’s goalless draw to Arouca at Estadio do Bessa Seculo XXI.
Petit’s team have just one win in the last six Primeira Liga matches. They occupy the 8th position in the league standings but it is hard to expect them to do much against the heavyweights in the capital.
Sporting CP vs Boavista Head-to-head
- Boavista stunned Sporting Lisbon 2-1 in the reverse game played in mid September last year in Porto.
- They have ended Sporting CP’s run of five consecutive wins in this matchup.
- Sporting CP have been the dominant force in the history of the clashes against Boavista at Estadio Jose Alvalade where they won 18 and drew 5 of the previous 23 matches.
Sporting CP vs Boavista Prediction
Boavista were completely toothless in the final third in a generally uneventful affair against Arouca last weekend. Sporting Lisbon had kept three consecutive clean sheets across competitions before the match against Arsenal on Thursday.
The home win to nil is probably the best betting pick at the 1.83 odds. If you would like to chase higher odds, we would go with the 3-0 correct score bet at the 7.50 odds.
