Spartak Moscow vs Braga
Europa League Qualification
Date: Thursday, 29 August 2019
Kick-Off at 18:15 UK / 19:15 CET
Venue: Otkrytiye Arena (Moscow).
Spartak Moscow will be hoping to overturn one-goal deficit when they take on Braga for the return leg of the Europa League Playoffs.
Both teams have started off their European journey from the 3rd Qualifying round. Ezequiel Ponce and Zelimkhan Bakaev bagged two each in Spartak’s 5-3 aggregate win over Swiss side Thun, while the Portuguese club eased past Brondby (4-2 A, 3-1 H).
Last week’s clash was hardly a joy to watch as both sides struggled to generate chances. We’ve seen some solid long range attempts and that’s it. If there wasn’t for Ricardo Horta’s quick reaction after Joao Novais’ fumble, we’d have another goal-less game to recap.

The game played at the iconic Braga Municipal Stadium was a first-ever meeting between these sides.
Spartak Moscow vs Braga: Prediction
Return legs are usually more lively, and we’re hoping to see a dynamic game in the Russian capital.
Spartak is an ‘overish’ home team in the Europa League – out of ten last games, nine went over 2.5. Since they need a goal to level the score, it’s fair to say ‘Narodnaya komanda’ won’t hold back. Their defence isn’t exactly trustworthy, though, since they allowed eight goals at Otkrytiye Arena in last season’s edition of the Europa League.
The Thursday’s guests are clearly in much better position having secured a win with a clean sheet, which makes all the difference. They probably only need one goal in Moscow to finish the job, and I’m positive they’ll get it. However, the Russian team has scored at least one goal at home in 18 out of 19 games in Europe’s second-best competition and that trend should continue.
