Zalgiris Vilnius vs Sevilla Analysis for Prediction

This tie started as a big mismatch on paper, yet Zalgiris can be happy with the first leg result after letting Sevilla to get a 1-0 win.

The Lithuanians won Europa League ties on the back of strong defensive displays and the same can be expected back at Vilnius.

However, surprises are not expected this Thursday with the Spaniards are too strong for Zalgiris. Still, a tight clash is on the cards.

Zalgiris Vilnius vs Sevilla Preview

Zalgiris did not have a vast European experience in their history, but their players will have the honour of enjoying the clash with Spanish La Liga giants Sevilla on Thursday evening.

The Lithuanian outfit reached the third qualifying round by eliminating Faroese KI 3-2 on aggregate and Liechtenstein’s Vaduz 2-1 on aggregate. They head into the lash with Sevilla as massive underdogs, but such experience should certainly be helpful ahead of the challenges to come in the following years.

It is fair to say Zalgiris had a tougher draw in the second qualifying round when they played Hungarian Ujpest. Los Rojiblancos bagged as many as seven goals in two legs, meaning Zalgiris could really be in for a disaster here.

The new head coach Pablo Machin clearly has high ambitions from this term of Europa League as he sent a very strong line-up on the pitch against Ujpest.

Pablo Sarabia leads the goal-scoring list with three goals in two games with the Hungarians, but the likes of Wissam Ben Yedder, Luis Muriel, Jesus Navas and Franco Vazquez also added their names to the scoresheet over these two wins.

Zalgiris are prone to catastrophes in away fixtures in Europa League as they conceded five goals on two separate occasions in last seven games on the road in this competitions (against Austrian rivals Admira and Salzburg).
