Sevilla vs Manchester United
UEFA Europa League
Date: 20 April 2023, Thursday
Kick-off at 20:00 UK / 21:00 CET
Venue: Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan (Seville).
Manchester United seemed to have the full control of both the game and the tie against Sevilla in the last week’s first leg of the UEFA Europa League quarterfinal only to be stunned by a couple of late own goals.
The Spaniards got away with a 2-2 draw from Old Trafford and they’ve thus drastically increased their chances of progressing to the semifinal after the events in the second half of the last week’s affair.
Things have gone from bad to worse in no time for the Red Devils seven days ago. On top of the two own goals, Manchester United lost three key players for the second leg, including a center-back pairing of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane (both injured) and Bruno Fernandes (suspended).
United’s top scorer Marcus Rashford missed both the first leg and the weekend’s clash against Nottingham Forest at The City Ground and the rematch at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan will likely come too soon for him.
Interestingly, the bookmakers still see the English outfit as pretty big favorites to beat the Spaniards on the road.
Sevilla may be going through one of the toughest campaigns in the last decade but they still possess enough quality in their ranks to go all the way in this competition.
Jose Mendilibar’s men made it three consecutive games in which they scored at least two goals seven days ago when they shocked Manchester United with a late charge. Will they maintain such a fine attacking form in the rematch?
Sevilla vs Manchester United Head-to-head
- Sevilla have always been unpleasant rival for Manchester United who are winless in the last five head to head encounters.
- Los Rojiblancos have won three and drawn two along the way.
- Interestingly, four of these five head to head outings between these rivals have seen the Over 2.5 goals FT & Both Teams To Score option coming in.
