Serbia vs Turkey
UEFA Nations League
Date: Sunday, 6 September 2020
Kick-off at 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
Venue: Stadion Rajko Mitić.
The Crescent-Stars faced an unexpected loss in the opener the last match-day, against Hungary. The defeat has put them in the bottom half of the table as of now.
However, five games still remain, and there’s time to make a comeback if Senol Gunes’s men play it smart.
This Sunday, the other two teams in Group B3 – Russia and Hungary, will take on each other, and the former are expected to win. This gives an opportunity for the Crescent-Stars to climb to the second spot.
However, for that to happen, they have to ensure that they secure the three points in this upcoming fixture.
Considering the recent form of Gunes’s men, especially in the recently-concluded Euro Qualifiers, along with the current struggles of the Eagles – Turkey are expected to have the upper hand this game week.

- These two teams are taking on each other for the very first time.
Serbia vs Turkey: Prediction
Gunes’ men were included in the tough Group H in the Euro Qualifiers, along with the likes of France and giant-killers Iceland.
However, surprising almost everyone, they secured the second spot in the table, and won a ticket to the continental extravaganza. It needs to be mentioned that the team managed to hold off world champions France in both fixtures.
At home, the Crescent-Stars won 2-0 against the two-time world champions, and recorded a 1-1 draw on the road.
All through the tournament, they conceded a total of three goals (from ten matches), and two of those goals had come in one single game against Iceland.
Meanwhile, the Eagles missed out on the Euros, and that too after being part of the comparatively easier Group B. They had to settle for a third spot in the standings, and their sole four wins had come against minnows – Luxembourg and Lithuania.
Taking these observations into account, expect Turkey to be the better team on the pitch this Sunday.
However, understand that Ljubisa Tumbakovic’s men are desperate. They are already dead-last in the table, and if they lose one more game, they will lose any opportunity to get promoted.
Moreover, they are at home, and this will give them extra incentive to perform, and also note that the Crescent-Stars had failed to keep a clean sheet in 11 of their previous 14 road trips.
As such, expect the wounded Serbia to find the back of the net at least once.
