Salzburg vs Celtic
UEFA Europa League
Date: Thursday, 4 October 2018
Kick-Off at 17:55 UK / 18:55 CET
Venue: Red Bull Arena (Wals-Siezenheim).
Salzburg once again failed to make the Champions League dream by falling at the very last hurdle to Red Star Belgrade in the play-offs round. Marco Rose’s men had the full control of the tie, but allowed two quick second-half goals to waste a massive chance to finally feature the elite continental competition.
This way they are forced to look for a big result in Europa League where the Austrian champions made a remarkable run last season. The Bulls went all the way to the last four where they were unlucky to lose to Olympique Marseille. Can they make such a scintillating run this term?
Salzburg got off to a fine start beating fellow Red Bull outfit Leipzig 2-3 on the German soil on the opening day of the new group stage campaign. Can they make it two from two this Thursday when Scottish champions Celtic come to visit Red Bull Arena?
Salzburg vs Celtic: Head-to-head
The draw has put these two sides together in the group stage of the same competition four years ago.
Salzburg were more successful back then, claiming four points from two matches against the Bhoys.
These two sides advanced from the same group winning top two spots on the occasion.
Both matches saw four goals scored.
Salzburg vs Celtic: Prediction
Celtic also got off to a promising start as they saw off Rosenborg 1-0 at home two weeks ago. Brendan Rodgers’ men struggled to break the deadlock all up until the 87th minute when Leigh Griffiths made the difference between the two teams.
However, it’s been anything but an ideal start of the season for the Bhoys who don’t look to be untouchable in Scotland anymore. The visitors only sit 5th in the league ladder being five points shy of table-toppers Hearts.
Celtic’s games were short on goalmouth action as they struggle to adjust to life without striker Moussa Dembele who left to play the Champions League football with Lyon this summer. The Bhoys bagged just seven goals in seven league games so far which is way below their standards.
Salzburg, on the other side, won 9 from 9 in Bundesliga bagging 24 goals along the way. They are certainly the form favourites here and we’ll go for their victory at 1.61 as the main betting option.
