Romania vs Serbia
UEFA Nations League
Date: Sunday, 14th October 2018
Kick-off at 14:00 UK/ 15:00 CET
Venue: National Arena, Bucharest.
An important match in Group C4 of UNL, between first and second place teams is on Sunday.
Romania will host a strong Serbia side whom they managed to draw on their away fixture.
That result will be a massive boost to the home players when they take on Mitrović and company in their own backyard. Aleksandar Mitrović scored a brace in that game and is possibly favorite to score again.
Penalty goal from Nicolae Stanciu leveled the scores after first half strike from Serbia. Later he came up with the cross which was turned goal-ways by George Tucudean from close range.
Lithuania was next in the league for Romania in an away fixture. The match finished 1-2 at Vilnius.
Serbia won their away league match at Montenegro at 2-0. Mitrović was again the star with a brace.
After qualifying for Euro at France, the team has had a below average performance. A disappointing WC qualifier meant the change in management. Cosmin Contra was appointed in 2017 to pick the team up.
The 34 year old Cristian Sapunaru is also the leader of their defense.
Before the draw at home Serbia won 1-0 at Lithuania. The modest Lithuania side was no match for the Serbs.
World Cup was hard for the Eagles. Losses to Switzerland and Brazil after a win over Costa Rica meant they will not be progressing to the next round.
Matić is their engine in Midfield. The lanky man is equal in both defense and offence.
Dušan Tadić of Ajax will give company to Mitrović up front. Captain Aleksandar Kolarov is a major danger when he is in attacking mode.
Romania vs Serbia Head to head
In UNL 2-2 draw at Romania.
From 2009-2018, 3 matches played between them of which Serbia won two and a draw in one match.
Romania vs Serbia Prediction
To beat the Eagles at home Romania will have to play far better than their recent performances.
Cosmin Contra’s men are not consistent in scoring goals in competitive games. Serbian coach Mladen Krstajić will be worried about Romanians winning against Chile in 2 friendlies in two years.
The Tricolours must be alert in not letting Kolarov’s crosses finding their way to Mitrović and Tadić. Matić will be controlling the midfield by helping out his defense.
