Roma vs Chievo
Italian Serie A.
Date: Sunday 16 September 2018
Kick-Off: 11:30 UK/ 12:30 CET
Venue: Stadio Olimpico (Rome).
Roma will look to take advantage of Chievo’s woes as they welcome the Flying Donkeys to the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday afternoon.
Chievo have been fortunate to stay in Serie A for the past few seasons but their luck seems to be on its last legs. They were just coasting along last season and whilst they did face relegation at one point, managed to be propped up by other sides who fared worse and snuck by to stay in the top flight.
However, now off the pitch problems have hit them as well. Due to dodgy accounting and inflating values of transfers to make sure they stayed in Serie A, they have been hit with a three point deduction, which is actually pretty light as the prosecutor’s office was seeking a whopping 15 point penalty.
So, the Flying Donkeys do have some bit of Lady Luck shining on them still, as a 15 point deduction would certainly mean that they definitely would be heading back to Serie B next term.
That being said, having failed to win their first two games, a three point penalty is the last thing they needed ahead of a trip to Roma, as they were beaten by Juventus before being humiliated 6-1 by Fiorentina.
Whilst Chievo’s board are hoping to get that deduction overturned, the team will have to re-focus and try to get back on track after struggling against Empoli to earn a point from a drab scoreless draw.
Roma, for their part ended up losing 2-1 to Milan, which is not how the Giallorossi wanted to heard into the international break, and they have to travel to Madrid next to face none other than the reigning champs Real Madrid in the Champions League. They may have lost Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus this summer, but obviously the Spanish giants are still the favorites for that clash.
This will present a great chance for Roma to warm up for their European adventure and take advantage of a Chievo side still in total disarray.

Roma vs Chievo: Prediction
Roma’s last home game was quite disappointing as they had to settle for a draw with Atalanta but they should have no problems dealing with Chievo.
The Flying Donkeys have an awful away record, where they lost to all teams in the European spots last term.
The way they were crushed 6-1 by Fiorentina this season shows they haven’t sorted themselves out defensively this season and the Lupi beat them 4-1 last time around.
In fact, four of the last five meetings with Roma score at least two goals and they should do the same here.
