RB Leipzig vs Stuttgart
Germany Bundesliga,
Date: Friday, 20 August 2021
Kick-off 19:30 UK/ 20:30 CET
Venue: Red Bull Arena.

Title hopefuls RB Leipzig will be desperate to bounce back from a shocking 1-0 loss at Mainz as they take on Stuttgart in the first game of the second Bundesliga Matchday.

Jesse Marsch could have hardly imagined a worse start to his reign at RB Leipzig as his new team fell 1-0 away at Mainz on the opening day.

Leipzig entered the clash as huge favorites and they received an even greater tag when around a dozen of Mainz players were forced into COVID-19 quarantine.

Although the game itself was in doubt, Mainz found the way to stun the title hopefuls and produce the biggest upset of the opening round of Bundesliga.

RB Leipzig did show a somewhat better display in the second half of the affair at MEWA ARENA, but they lacked the finishing touch despite having the likes of Andre Silva, Emil Forsberg, Christopher Nkunku, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Marcel Sabitzer in their ranks.

The match against Stuttgart comes at a bad moment for Jesse Marsch’s troops because their rivals will enter it in much higher spirits, following a 5-1 thrashing of newly-promoted Greuther Furth.

Borna Sosa was the dominant figure with a hat-trick of assists, while defender Marc Oliver Kempf got big with two goals off set-pieces on the occasion.

Such a big victory was even greater if we know that Pellegrino Matarazzo was without his main striker Sasa Kalajdzic (quarantine).

RB Leipzig vs Stuttgart Head-to-head

  • RB Leipzig will rely heavily on tradition going into this tie.
  • The hosts won five and drew one of six meetings with Stuttgart.
  • Stuttgart scored only one goal in these six matches against RB Leipzig.
  • Interestingly, only one of six H2H games between these two outfits saw three or more goals scored.

RB Leipzig vs Stuttgart Prediction

Stuttgart will try and take advantage of momentum as Jesse Marsch obviously needs some time to bed in the new arrivals (primarily Silva and Szoboszlai). Stuttgart can beat anyone in this league on their day and we feel they could have what it takes for an upset here.

Of course, we don’t deny RB Leipzig’s favorites’ tag here, but we just say there is not much value in backing the home win at the 1.44 odds. We will try with the Under 2.5 goals FT pick at the sky-high 2.62 odds instead knowing that five of the last six H2H clashes between these two rivals ended with fewer than three goals scored.

RB Leipzig vs Stuttgart Betting Tips

  • Under 2.5 goals FT @ 2.62 odd
  • Draw at the half time @ 2.62 odd.
