Rapid Vienna vs Rangers
UEFA Europa League
Date: Thursday, 133 December 2018
Kick-Off at 17:55 UK / 18:55 CET
Venue: Allianz Stadion (Vienna).
Rangers head into the decisive Europa League affair low on confidence after claiming just one point from last two domestic fixtures. Steven Gerrard’s men were enjoying a tremendous run of eight subsequent matches without a single defeat before the narrow 0-1 loss at home to Aberdeen. Stevie G obviously failed to lift the spirits inside the dressing room after such loss as the Gers looked unconvincing in a disappointing 1-1 draw away at Dundee who sit second from bottom after 11 rounds of the competition.
Can the Gers bounce back and claim a victory on the final Matchday when they travel to Austrian capital to take on Rapid Vienna? The situation in Group G is quite complicated ahead of last round fixtures. The Gers will be safe knockout stage passengers with a victory at Allianz Stadion, while any other scenario would see them finish the campaign in the group stage. Rapid, on the other side, need a point here to progress.
This will only be the second H2H clash between the two sides throughout the course of history.
Rangers managed a late second-half comeback to win 3-1 when teams met in the second round in early-October at Ibrox.
Veton Berisha pushed Rapid in from three minutes before the half time only for Alfredo Morelos to respond immediately after the kick off.
James Tavernier converted the penalty six minutes from time for the Gers, while Morelos completed his brace to confirm his team’s victory in the fourth minute of the added time.
Rangers could struggle to break the deadlock here. They failed to create in the final third in last two league outings against Aberdeen and Dundee. Steven Gerrard’s troops scored just one goal in the process.
They will be up against an outfit which kept back-to-back clean sheets in Austrian Bundesliga. Since the match has a massive importance for both teams, we will back the Under 2.5 goals FT as the main betting option at 2.10 odds. You can also back no goals in the first half at 3.25.
