AFC Asian Cup
Date: Wednesday, 9 January 2019
Kick-Off at 16:00 UK/ 17:00 CET
Venue: Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium, Al Ain.

Qatar travel to Al Ain for their opening clash of Asian Cup campaign looking to bounce back after two underwhelming displays in late December, where both Algeria and Iran bagged narrow wins and ended their four-game unbeaten streak.

Maroons have proven themselves as very tough rivals against the big guns beforehand and we’ve seen them beat Switzerland and hold Iceland to a draw in November, as well as beat both Jordan and Kyrgyzstan in December. Felix Sanchez will now want his men to show off early on and make a statement they’re up to the knockout stages, which promises them in good spirits on the day.

Lebanon will have to search for an upset and their recent spell of form is far from promising of such a thing, where they only held Oman and Uzbekistan to draws in their last five outings – failing to find the net in losses to Kuwait, Australia, and Bahrain most recently. They’re one of the least backed sides to win the competition outright and Qatar now have a lot to prove at Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium.

Qatar vs Lebanon: Head-to-head

Lebanon have never beaten Qatar in six head-to-head clashes played so far.

Qatar have bagged five wins and a draw, including a 5-0 thrashing in their last matchup in 2014.

This was only the second occasion where we’ve seen more than two goals between the sids, though.

Qatar vs Lebanon: Prediction

We will now back Qatar to build on such records and going for the Maroons to bag the points at 1.70 sure looks like buying money for old rope at this point, despite having to work off a losing streak they’ve seen in late December.

Felix Sanchez have been very hard to score against and with that in mind, we expect nothing different in Al Ain. We thus hope to see a narrow occasion and although we hope for a comfortable win for Qatar, we’ll now also back Under 2.5 goals FT at 1.60 – which has seen many big hitters lumping as well.
