Preston vs Bolton Wanderers Predictions and Match Preview

Preston vs Bolton Wanderers
2018/19 EFL Championship
Date: Saturday, 1 September 2018
Kick-Off at 15:00 UK/ 16:00 CET
Venue: Deepdale Stadium (Preston).

Preston North End have ended their three-match winless streak with a great 0-2 League Cup win at Leeds United and they now return to Championship as they host Bolton Wanderers for their Matchday 6 clash in hope to build on the success.

Lilywhites have only held Stoke to a 2-2 draw and suffered losses at Norwich City and Derby County beforehand, so it’s fair to say Alex Neil’s men have been desperate for such a pick-me-up. They have been a tougher side to beat at Deepdale and we’ll now surely see them very motivated to show off such a character once again.

Bolton have been similarly unpredictable recently and they’ve seen an earlier League Cup exit in the hands of Leeds. We’ve seen them bounce back with wins over Reading and Birmingham City but the thrashing 0-3 loss to Sheffield United in front of the home crowd will be more worrying, as Jimmy Phillips looks to lift their team spirits and surely hopes his men can capitalize on being better rested at this point.

Preston vs Bolton Wanderers: Head-to-head

  • Preston have bagged a 1-3 win over Bolton in their last head-to-head clash.
  • Lilywhites have also earned two wins and three draws in the last five matchups, which will have them hopeful ahead of the day too.
  • Bolton have last snatched a win (0-1) at this ground back in 2001, but held on to two draws in two games since then.

Preston vs Bolton Wanderers: Prediction

We will now back Preston North End to build on their League Cup success over the weekend too and connect their second win in a row, which comes priced at 1.53 and has been rated a banker bet by many in the know already.

However, we do feel we’re in for a narrower contest than the odds would suggest and we don’t feel Bolton will be an easy nut to crack. With that in mind, we expect few goals on the day and we’ll also go for Under 2.5 goals FT at 1.66, which also seems a rather safe way to go about the market at this point.
