Arsenal vs Manchester City Prediction

Arsenal and Manchester City will drop the curtain on Gameweek No 8 in a mouth-watering derby of the season on Sunday afternoon at Emirates Stadium.

There is now only a single point separating the two sides after Man City’s shocking slip-up away at Wolves last weekend (a 1-2 defeat).

The Citizens bounced back with an important victory at RB Leipzig on Wednesday night in the UEFA Champions League.

However, it was not the best performance we’ve seen from them this season. Pep Guardiola needed a Julian Alvarez magic to seal the deal on German soil as the Argentine substitute brought his team the win with a beautiful strike late in the game.

Erling Haaland is still Premier League’s top scorer with eight goals in seven appearances this term.

However, his form in recent outings has been far from ideal and it will be very interesting to see whether the Norwegian superstar can regain confidence with a strong display in one of the toughest games of the season.

On the other side, Arsenal might be without their star boy Bukayo Saka in one of the biggest matches of the year. Mikel Arteta refused to give Saka a rest although the English youngster received several back-to-back knocks in recent matches.

Saka left mid-week’s UEFA Champions League game in Lens in the first half through injury and we are not optimistic about his chances of featuring on Sunday against City.

Saka’s potential absence would represent a massive blow to the Gunners who are already without an injured Gabriel Martinelli.

Manchester City easily won the last season’s two clashes against Arsenal, scoring seven goals in the process.

The Citizens have eight wins and a draw in the previous nine outings against Arsenal.

We’ve seen goals at both ends in all but one of the last five clashes between these counterparts, including this year’s Community Shield tie in August (a 1-1 draw, Arsenal’s win on penalties).

The Verdict

Bukayo Saka’s potential absence would be a huge blow to Arsenal’s chances of getting much from this tie. Even if he does feature, we still trust Manchester City much more in this matchup.

The away win is the main pick at the 2.40 odds while we also fancy the 2.10 odds offered for Erling Haaland to regain confidence and score anytime for the champions.
