Kick-Off at 19:30 UK / 20:30 CET
Venue: Estadio Do Dragao, Porto.

Newcastle begin the short Portuguese tour on Saturday when they take on the Primeira Liga champions Porto away at Estadio Do Dragao, four days before the Sporting Braga clash. The Magpies come into it off the back of a 2-2 draw to Hull City on Tuesday as the head coach Rafael Benitez is eager to see improvements in his team’s defensive displays.

Porto will be a true test given they have a deadly attacking pair in the likes of Moussa Marega and Vincent Aboubakar. The first one made the difference for the hosts in Sunday’s tie with Everton at the Algarve Football Cup on the Portuguese soil. Porto thus bounced back from the initial 1-2 loss to Lille at the same event and they will also be keen to get a result here knowing it’s their last friendly before the Portuguese Super Cup against Desportivo Aves next weekend.

Porto vs Newcastle United: Head-to-head

The two teams have no previous head to head record.

Porto vs Newcastle United: Prediction

The Magpies strengthened the defensive line with Fabian Schar, but the Swiss international is yet to make his debut for the new team. Other than this, the team is stronger for the former Swansea City midfielder Sung-yong Ki. It was the Spanish connection Joselu and Ayoze Perez which produced goals for the Magpies in the mentioned 2-2 draw to Hull City.

Dwight Gayle is still absent, just as Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic as we could likely see the Spanish dup lead the line once again here.

Porto made plenty of changes to their squad from the previous season, but the core of the team is still there. They lost two and won one of three pre-season games so far.

Sergio Conceicao will certainly field the strongest line-up possible for the hosts here given it will be their final check before the official start of the season.

Porto are favourites at this stage of the pre-season and we’ll back them to be in charge from the very first whistle to the end.
