Olympiacos vs Red Star Belgrade: Head-to-head (h2h)
- Though they consider each other sister-clubs, these two have met only twice before.
- Red Star stunned the Greeks in Belgrade by winning 3-1.
- One other meeting was a friendly game in Piraeus which Olympiacos won 2-1.
Olympiacos vs Red Star Belgrade: Prediction
Following 2-2 draw at home to Tottenham, the Piraeus club has lost their last four Group B games. After slipping the lead to loss against Red Star, they were beaten twice by Bayern Munich.
Olympiacos leading than letting it slip has become something of a trend, as they did same thing in the last game versus Tottenham, having lost 2-0 advantage at Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham CL debut. That means they’re still at one point and to get into Europa League, they must defeat Red Star at all cost.
The Serbians have only three points to their name but are still two points better off than their hosts.
Aside from home win against Olympiacos in their first official meetup, Red Star suffered four defeats in the group. They opened with a 3-0 loss at Bayern before two heavy defeats by Tottenham.
A 5-0 away defeat in London equaled their biggest loss in Europe but that record was surpassed in the last matchday as rampant Bayern crushed them 6-0 in Belgrade, making that Delije’s biggest home defeat in history.
For the Piraeus club, captain Kostas Fortounis will be out till 2020. Lazaros Christodoulopoulos has returned to training following cruciate ligaments injury, as is Pape Abou Cissé though it is unlikely they’ll play on Wednesday.
As for Crvena Zvezda, star striker Richmond Boakye and pacey winger Rajiv van la Parra will both miss out on this game.
While Red Star have proven themselves to be a tough nut to crack on away games in domestic competitions, Champions League is another level for them. That’s why I’m going with Olympiacos on this one.
The Greeks are much more experienced team and only lost game in Belgrade because Benzia got sent off. Also, go for Over 2.5 goals. All it takes is an early goal for all hell to break loose.
