Norway vs Cyprus
UEFA Nations League
Date: Thursday, 6 September 2018
Kick-Off at 19:45 UK
Venue: Ullevaal Stadion (Oslo).
Norway have seen yet another disappointing World Cup Qualifiers campaign despite a strong finish but we’ve seen them pick it up in 2018 and they host Cyprus for their first UEFA Nations League outing in great shape!
Lions have connected a four-game winning streak as they bagged wins in friendlies against Australia, Albania, Iceland, and Panama. They’ve been rock-solid defensively on most occasions but possibly even more importantly for Lars Lagerback, his men have netted a high total of eight goals along the way and proven they have what it takes to impress in the attacking third too.
Cyprus have, on the other hand, been rather disappointing lately and we’ve seen them struggle in an attempt to bounce back after a poor Qualifiers campaign despite higher expectations set, with just one draw and three losses seen in four friendly games since November – beaten by Georgia, Armenia, and Jordan. They’ve only held off Montenegro in front of the home crowd along the way and their woes in the attacking third have been more than obvious for Ran Ben Shimon.
Norway vs Cyprus: Head-to-head
- Norway have bagged wins in all of their nine head-to-head clashes against Cyprus since 1988.
- Cyprus have found the net just four times in the process and struggled to cope with the rivals.
- The sides have last met in 2013, as Norway bagged a comfortable 2-0 home win and built on the 1-3 win earned in Cyprus the year before.
Norway vs Cyprus: Prediction
We will now back Norway to build on such convincing records and go for them to win to Nil here, which comes at a good-looking 2.00. Cyprus have struggled to score goals on the regular and we do see them having trouble with Norway’s in-form and very tight defensive line on the day.
We don’t feel we’ll see Norway smoothly sailing past the rivals, though, and Cyprus will be looking to show off as tough rivals to score against too. With that in mind, we’ll now also back Under 2.5 goals FT at 1.66 and hope not to see early goals which could turn this one into a more open contest at Ullevaal Stadion.
