Nigeria vs Cameroon
Africa Cup of Nations
Date: Saturday, 6 July 2019
Kick off at 17:00 UK / 18:00 CET
Venue: Alexandria Stadium (Alexandria).
Cameroon will be kicking themselves, for all of their missed goal scoring opportunities in the group stages, after losing out on the top spot to Ghana on goal difference.
Their last clash was against Benin, and the match finished in a stalemate at the end of the ninety minutes. The squad certainly enjoyed the lion’s share of time on the ball, with their opposition managing less than a third of the entire possession.
However, Clarence Seedorf’s side failed miserably in using it to their advantage while their opponents seemed content in staying put and defending from deep inside their own half.
Nigeria suffered a similar set back in their own group after being handed a shock defeat at the hands of Madagascar in their final group game. The squad conceded a goal in each half and failed to make use of their twelve attempts at goal, eight of which were not even on target.
The loss left them second in the table, trailing behind Madagascar by a single point. They will have to bounce back from the loss when they square up against Cameroon and post a much more convincing performance if they plan on going all the way.
The winning team will be facing the victors of the round of sixteen clash between Egypt and South Africa.
Nigeria vs Cameroon Head to head (h2h)
- The teams have met each other on thirteen occasions.
- Cameroon have registered just three wins in their h2h clashes.
- The last meeting between the two sides finished in a draw, with the scores reading 1-1 at the final whistle.
- Cameroon have not kept a clean sheet against Nigeria in their last five h2h fixtures.
Nigeria vs Cameroon Prediction
Cameroon are unlikely to post a win against Nigeria when the teams clash in the round of sixteen on Friday.
Nigeria have managed two wins in their last three matches, and have recorded two clean sheets to their name as well. The squad also found the back of the net at least once in their first two fixtures and failed to do so only in their recent game against Madagascar.
Clarence Seedorf’s men are undefeated in Cup so far, with a win and two draws to their name. However, his side have failed to get their name on the scoresheet in their last two, back to back fixtures, despite creating quite a few goal scoring opportunities.
With the competition narrowing down considerably, we can certainly expect both the teams to be a lot more clinical and to find the back of the net in the clash on Saturday. Nevertheless, Nigeria are likely to edge past their foes at the end of the ninety minutes.
