Morocco vs Benin
Africa Cup of Nations
Date: Friday, 5 July 2019
Kick off at 17:00 UK / 18:00 CET
Venue: Al Salam Stadium (Cairo).
Morocco certainly surprised everyone when they managed to top their group with an unbeaten streak to their name. The squad bossed all of their opponents including the mighty Ivory Coast and were able to clinch back to back victories by a 1-0 scoreline.
Their last game against South Africa was no different, with the Moroccans dominating the game with the lion’s share of possession. With the squad making no mistakes in their defensive third, their opponents managed not more than two feeble attempts at goal.
Despite the better statistics, Herve Renard’s men certainly left it late though to clinch the winning goal, with Moubarak Boussoufa finding the winner in the dying minutes of regulation time.
Benin had zero wins to their name in the group stages, making their journey into the round of sixteen far less exciting. The squad finished third in the table and managed not more than a draw against all of their group members.
Their most recent clash against Cameroon saw them holding the latter to a stalemate. Michel Dussuyer’s side were on the back foot for most of the time in that game and enjoyed just 27% of the ball possession. When they weren’t parking the bus, they managed just one shot on target.
The winners of the tie will be facing off against either Uganda or Senegal, depending on who comes out on top in their own clash, in the quarterfinals.

Morocco vs Benin Prediction
With three out of three wins under their belt, Morocco are certainly the favorites by a mile to progress into the quarterfinals.
Benin have failed to find the back of the net in their last two games, with both of those matches finishing in a stalemate. The squad have been preferring to park the bus and let their opponents come to them instead of making their presence felt in the attacking third.
Herve Renard men need no introduction when it comes to slotting goals home, and you can definitely bet on them to be the ones to break the deadlock before the ninety minutes are up.
Considering that his squad have also recorded three back to back clean sheets in the group stage, we can certainly rule out the chances of a high scoring game. The match is likely to see the Moroccans clinch the win, with Benin unlikely to find even a goal of their own.
