Metz vs PSG
France Ligue 1
Date: Friday, 30th August 2019
Kick off at 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
Venue: Stade Saint-Symphorien (Metz)
It’s rare that champions PSG get to play on a Friday night, but they will open the 4th weekend of Ligue 1 football. Whilst Thomas Tuchel’s team will start as the odds-on favourites they have a lot of problems through injuries in the striking department.
Firstly, Neymar is not being picked, there is a claim that he is injured but also, he looks set to leave the club and hasn’t been available all season. The really bad news is that Kylian Mbappe limped off in the win against Toulouse and he is set to miss the next 4 weeks.
And if that wasn’t enough veteran striker Edinson Cavani will also miss this game. So, in effect PSG’s famed three strikers will not be taking part in this game. No quality strikers is a headache for Tuchel, no strikers, no goals.
PSG have started the season in standard form for them, but they have already lost a game at Rennes which ended 2-1. At home as always, they look very strong and have scored 7 goals in 2 games without conceding. But the problem this season could be their away form.
Metz opened their season with a decent 1-1 draw at Strasbourg and then went on to beat Monaco 3-0. Last weekend though they lost their first game of the season as Angers overpowered them to win 3-0.
Metz vs PSG: Head to Head

- Metz have not beaten PSG since 2006.
Metz vs PSG: Prediction
Despite having a lot of quality missing from this game, PSG should have enough, one would expect to get the win. However, the last time PSG played here they won 5-1 and 4 of those goals were scored by players that won’t be available for Tuchel.
PSG are around 1.44 to win this game, and maybe with Neymar and co playing they would have been more like 1.30. We are not being offered good odds for Metz on the handicap as they come in at around 1.62 for a +2 goal start.
We do think Metz will be up for this game though, they scored 3 goals against Monaco the only time they have been at home this season and they will feel confident of creating attacks knowing some many good players will be missing for the champions.
Watch out for Metz forward Habib Diallo who scored 2 goals last time the club were at home.
