Mali vs Mauritania
Africa Cup of Nations
Date: Monday, 24th June 2019
Kick off at 21:00 UK/ 22:00 CET
Venue: Suez Stadium (Suez).
Mali are currently on a disappointing run of form, having been denied victory in their last three matches despite taking the initial lead in all of them. The Eagles will be hoping to finally break the jinx with a win against first-timers Mauritania on Monday in their opening fixture, for the Africa Cup of Nations at the Suez Stadium.
The latter have not been impressive in their recent encounters either, with just one win in their last three matches. Their previous fixture against Madagascar gave them their first taste of victory, after suffering back to back defeats at the hands of Ghana and Burkina Faso.
Both the sides will be eying the win and the potential three points on Monday, considering that the rest of the fixtures ahead of them in the group are going to be a lot tougher.
The Eagles will be squaring up against Tunisia next, while Corentin Martin’s side head into a clash with Angola.
Mali vs Mauritania Head to head (h2h)
- Both the teams have met each other on five occasions.
- Mauritania have managed just one victory over Mali.
- The Eagles came out on top in their last encounter with the match ending 3-1 in their favor.
- Two out of their last five matches ended in a tie.
Mali vs Mauritania Prediction
Mohamed Magassouba’s men are likely to come out of the clash with the win and the three points when they take on Mauritania in their opening clash for the African Cup of Nations.
The latter’s sole win in their last three matches points out that the squad still needs working when it comes to taking care of their defensive third. They were at the receiving end of three goals when they took on Ghana while they lost the match by a single goal when they were up against Burkina Faso.
It has been quite an unlucky run of affairs, to say the least, for the Eagles who looked poised to take the win each time but failed to do so in their last three fixtures. However, they are almost certain to take the lead before the interval, when they clash with Corentin Martin’s squad and possibly the much-awaited win, at the end of the final whistle.
We can also bet on the latter getting on the score sheet, considering their opponent’s weak defensive record. However, the win is definitely in Mali’s sights, while first-timers Mauritania are likely to succumb to their first defeat.
