Magdeburg vs St. Pauli: Preview and Predictions

Magdeburg vs St. Pauli Bundesliga II Predictions by LeagueLane

Magdeburg vs St. Pauli
Germany – 2. Bundesliga
Date: Sunday, 5 August 2018
Kick-Off at 12:30 UK / 13:30 CET
Venue: MDCC-Arena, Magdeburg.

Magdeburg managed to reach the second class of the German football for the first time in their history by winning the title in the previous term of 3. Liga.

It was a huge success for Jens Hartel (took charge in the summer of 2014) and his men who will have the chance to enjoy the occasion of their 2. Bundesliga debut on Sunday afternoon.

The opposition comes in the likes of St. Pauli who ended the previous season in the bottom half of the 2. Bundesliga standings and who enter the new campaign without a huge promotional ambition.

Der Club lifted the silverware in the third class thanks to a marvellous finish to the season which saw them win each of last five games two end two points clear off Paderborn in second.

They boasted league’s third-best attacking and second-best defensive record. The best of all, Jens Hartel managed to keep the team together as Magdeburg’s squad saw very little changes in between two seasons.

Magdeburg vs St. Pauli: Head-to-head

The two sides will meet each other for the first time since 2006/17 campaign when they battled it out together in the fourth class of the German football.

St. Pauli won one and drew one back then, conceding just one goal in two games with Magdeburg.

Magdeburg vs St. Pauli: Prediction

Both teams will come into this in high spirits if we are to judge by their performances in the off-season.

Truth be told, Magdeburg played much weaker opponents which is why it is hard to judge their form at this stage, but we have to mention they picked up five wins and a draw in last six games. The most familiar of rivals was Energie Cottbus (3-1 win).

Kiezkicker also mainly played lower-division sides during the preparations period, but they managed to boost up the confidence by beating Stoke City 2-0 in the final test last Saturday. Mats Daehli and Jan Schneider bagged goals against the Potters.

It is very hard to say which of the two teams is closer to snatching the spoils here which is why we will go for the draw as the main betting option, set at the odds of 3.25. The alternative bet is Under 2.5 goals FT at 1.72.
