Lyon vs Dijon
France – Ligue 1
Date: Friday, 28th August 2020
Kick off at 20:00 UK/ 21:00 CET
Venue: Groupama Stadium.
The Friday night game in Ligue 1 will see Lyon take on Dijon. Lyon were allowed to skip the first weekend of Ligue 1 football because they reached the semi-finals of the delayed Champions League and so this will be their first game of the season.
Incredibly after their fantastic European run which included knocking out Manchester City because Lyon finished 7th last season they will not be playing any European football this season. Some will see that as an advantage though where the club can fully concentrate on the league.
As for now Lyon have not been busy in the transfer market although they did confirm the signing of Karl Toko Ekambi from Villarreal. The player had been brought in on loan at the beginning of the year and Lyon have now bought him for around 12 million euros. They have also sold striker Martin Terrier for the same amount to Rennes.
Dijon started their Ligue 1 campaign with a loss at home to Angers with the final score ending 1-0. Despite having 9 goal attempts they only had 1 shot on target the whole game and this isn’t the best way to kick off their season. They played a 4-3-3 at home and they will certainly change that up away to Lyon and possibly play just 1 up front.
Lyon vs Dijon: Head to Head
Last season this game ended 0-0.
Lyon have failed to beat Dijon in their last 3 games when being at home and haven’t beaten Dijon here since 2017.
Even though their last game ended 0-0 there have been 32 goals in the last 7 meetings.
Lyon v Dijon: Prediction
So it is back to Ligue 1 football for Lyon who only a few days ago were attempting to reach the Champions League final, and they came very close.
How is the mental attitude of the team?
We will find out in this game. What really held Lyon back last season was their poor start and they never really got going and showed consistency until halfway into the season. They need to start flying off the blocks and we think they will have more than enough to beat Dijon.
It is true that Dijon have got some good results at this stadium lately but nothing lasts forever and the club did not look too good last week losing at home to Angers.
Hopefully the Lyon players will be hungry for the win and the take the advantage that PSG will not play in these round of games.
