Lithuania vs Ukraine
Date: Saturday, 7 September 2019
Kick-off at 17:00 UK / 18:00 CET
Venue: LFF stadionas (Vilnius).
It has been quite a while since Lithuania last picked up a win on the global stage, that too in a competitive game.
The hosts had a miserable run in the Nations League which saw them booted to the D League, and have got off to the worst possible spot imaginable in the qualifiers as well, where they are currently at the bottom of their table with just a point in the bag.
The squad’s last matchup on the road saw them succumb to a massive 4-1 scoreline against Serbia while at home they managed not more than a draw in their clash with Luxembourg, who were arguably the least competitive of their group members.
Ukraine are enjoying the view at the top and have so far picked up three wins and a draw to extend their unbeaten run to four games.
The visitors got the better of Luxembourg in their most recent game on home soil with a 1-0 win and took down the same side from behind in their previous outing by a 2-1 scorecard.
You can count on the away side to be too hot to handle for Lithuania even with home advantage under their belt.
Lithuania vs Ukraine Head to head (h2h)
- Two out of their last four clashes have seen Ukraine come away with the win, the last of which was a friendly that ended 4-0.
- Only one of their previous six matches have seen both teams find the back of the net.
- Lithuania’s last win over this opponent came in the year of 2007 by a 2-0 scorecard.
- Ukraine have netted eight goals from their last six meetings, while Lithuania scored two less.
Lithuania vs Ukraine Prediction
Valdas Urbonas’s men have been poor in all of their clashes building up to this tie and can slump no further down the group. They have not tasted success in their last eight matches on home soil ether, and have been at the losing end in six of those clashes as well.
Moreover, Ukraine have been a convincing bunch even in their trips on the road and have been taken down just once in their previous six outings across various tournaments.
The stellar start that they have got off to in the Euro’s, certainly suggests that Lithuania’s attempts to salvage even a point from this clash are unlikely to bear fruit.
Taking into account that the visitors have also been keeping a clean sheet in their last two games in a row, expect them to be the only ones to find the back of the net in this one.
Additionally, the away side are unlikely to stop at just the one as they have already netted eight from their clashes so far. By all means, you can count on Ukraine to score at least two or three past the struggling Lithuania.
