Bayer Leverkusen vs Augsburg
German Bundesliga

Kick-off at 14:30 UK / 15:30 CET

No rest for the wicked as Leverkusen continues their fight for Champions League football back on German soil just a few days after huge European scalp when they welcome stumbling Augsburg at BayArena.
Bayer Leverkusen vs Augsburg Match Preview
Lucas Alario put Die Werkself ahead, Kai Havertz doubled the lead from the penalty spot near an hour’s mark with Luis Diaz getting one back as Bayer 04 earn a deserved 2-1 win against top Portuguese side FC Porto in the first leg of the Europa League Round of 32 tie, their first European game after dropping out of the Champions League.
Following a huge triumph in another Bundesliga classic against Dortmund, the Werkself were on a high coming into Berlin to face off Union and their (over) confidence was nearly their undoing as the Iron Ones used their chances, pushing Bayer to their utter limits but their individual quality shone through with Bellarabi grabbing 90th minute winner, keeping the 04 at fifth place, two points off CL football.
Peter Bosz’s men usually do well at BayArena, getting all the spoils last two times they’ve played in front of their own fans though they aren’t strangers to dropping points against “lesser” opposition, like on-their-way-to-Zweite Werder or turbulent Hertha BSC…
A week on from the humiliating 5-0 defeat at Frankfurt, Augsburg were up for redemption; it started well, they took the lead in the first half, but were pegged back by a fortunate equalizer shortly after the restart and ultimately shared a point with faltering SC Freiburg in a 1-1 draw.
Fuggerstädter are somewhat of a Two-Face of the Bundesliga, a strong relegation candidate following a horrific start to the season, switching to god mode as November rolled in, going on a two-month unbeaten run only to get back on factory settings with the beginning of 2020 since when they’ve won only once (against self-destructive Werder) which got them right at the middle of the table at 11th.
Most of their good work is done at WWK Arena. Martin Schmidt’s men on their travels are borderline relegation side, getting only nine points from eleven trips, having lost on their last three excursions, with the last being already mentioned trashing by Eintracht in Frankfurt.
Karim Bellarabi and Moussa Diaby are having bad cases of cold and might end up being spared for Augsburg clash on Sunday.
Our guests aren’t as lucky though they had their share of good news; Stephan Lichtsteiner, Reece Oxford and Maurice Malone are back in training though is unlikely Schmidt will risk them so early while Fabian Giefer, Julian Schieber, Sergio Córdova and Simon Asta will remain on the sidelines till foreseeable future.

Bayer Leverkusen vs Augsburg Prediction
Despite their continental adventures during midweek, Leverkusen has superior players, enough depth in the squad and quality to continue their winning run against imploding Augsburg and get their third consecutive Bundesliga victory (fourth in a row against Fuggerstädter).
And there should be goals, lot of them. Leverkusen has been in the overdrive since 2020 rolled in and Augsburg have scored (but mostly conceded) four or more goals in three of their last four games on the road so… Writing’s on the wall for this one.
