Legia Warsaw vs Cork City
UEFA Champions League
Date: Tuesday, 17 July 2018
Kick-off at 20:00 UK/ 21:00 CET
Venue: Polish Army Stadium, Warsaw.
Legia carry a slender 1-0 lead to the second leg and is poised to see of the tie against Cork City with relative ease.
A late goal from Michal Kucharczyk was the difference at Turners Cross last week, but this will be enough to build up in the return leg at Warsaw.
It is also true that the Polish side were dominant throughout the 90 minutes, the biggest flaw in their game was the finishing. They took 19 shots and only 3 tested the goal-keeper.
Cork City are in the Champions League qualifying after a 12 year gap and this is only their third overall at the competition. They have a poor record in the tournament having lost 5 of the previous 8 games.
Besides, the Irish club had never made it to the group phase of a UEFA competition through qualifiers, if you look at the Europa League fixtures as well.
The first leg of the corresponding fixture at the Turner Cross saw the first ever h2h meeting between the two sides.
Legia last meeting with an Irish side was in 2016/17, against Cork’s arch rivals Dundalk, a tie ended in 3-1 aggregate win.
Cork had an excellent season last year, but they are a shadow of what they used to be in the current campaign.
Legia are a strong side on paper in comparison with their Irish opponent. They did a decent job in the first leg, now the flood gates could open on Tuesday.
FT – Legia -1.5 Asian Handicap @ 1.86 odd.
Total match goals – Over 2.5 at 1.80 odd.
