Leeds United vs Southampton
English Premier League
Date: 2 April 2022, Saturday
Kick-off at 15:00 UK / 16:00 CET
Venue: Elland Road (Leeds).
Leeds United ended a terrible run of five straight Premier League defeats with super-important back-to-back victories over Norwich City and Wolves in the previous two rounds.
Jesse Marsch’s men are now seven points clear off the red zone and can have a much easier approach to the final eight games of the campaign.
The Peacocks will be looking to extend the winning thread and make it three on the spin on Saturday afternoon when they welcome mid-table Southampton to Elland Road for the Gameweek 31 tie.
The visitors have not been pulling up any trees of late. They suffered four losses on the spin, including the FA Cup’s home disaster against Manchester City (1-4).
Southampton have conceded at least two goals in each of the previous four outings across competitions, including four goals to Aston Villa and Manchester City apiece.
The Saints have also suffered unexpected home defeats to the likes of Newcastle United and Watford (1-2 each) along the way.
Head coach Ralph Hasenhuttl is obviously having problems to motivate his lads who have already secured the top-flight survival and have nowhere to go in the remaining eight games of the season.
It will be very interesting to see how they will react after a four-loss streak and whether they will be able to respond to Leeds’ winning run this weekend.
Leeds vs Southampton Head-to-head
The teams have three wins each in the previous six head to head games.
None of the last five head to head affairs provided goals at both ends.
Leeds have a much better record in the H2H clashes at Elland Road against Southampton (19 wins, 6 draws, and 7 defeats in the last 32 games there).
Leeds vs Southampton Prediction
Neither of the two teams have been capable of keeping things quiet defensively in the recent weeks and we can hardly see either keeping a clean sheet whey the come across each other.
Kalvin Phillips’ return is a massive booster for Leeds who will, however, miss Patrick Bamford who got injured once again in the 2-3 win at Wolves in the previous round. As for the outcome, we fancy the value offered by the draw at the attractive 3.60 odds.
