Juventus’ domestic ambitions suffered a serious blow on Sunday evening when they fell 1-0 away at Roma.
Despite a generally solid campaign in terms of performances on the pitch, I Bianconeri are twelve points below fourth-placed Roma after the weekend’s defeat in the capital.
This leaves UEFA Europa League as possibly the team’s only route to the elite continental competition next year.
Juventus will face German side Freiburg in the battle for the quarterfinal of the competition. The first leg is scheduled for Thursday evening at Allianz Stadium in Turin.
Freiburg will enter the tie unbeaten in five subsequent outings across competitions. Christian Streich’s men have been fantastic defensively in recent weeks.
Freiburg allowed just two goals in the last five matches. They have kept their net untouched on Saturday afternoon in the goalless draw away at Borussia Monchengladbach.
Also, it is worth noting the German outfit shipped only three goals in the group phase of Europa League this season. They have won the group ahead of French side Nantes who were eliminated in the knockout stage playoffs just by Juventus.
I Bianconeri, on the other side, kept five clean sheets in the previous eight outings across competitions. Should we be in for a low-scoring scenario on Thursday night in Turin?
It is worth mentioning that Juventus did not allow too many goal-scoring chances against Roma on Sunday either. Massimiliano Allegri’s men certainly deserved more than a 1-0 defeat at Stadio Olimpico four days ago.
