Iraq vs Vietnam
Date: Tuesday, 8 January 2019
Kick-Off at 13:30 UK/ 14:30 CET
Venue: Sheikh Zayed Sports City, Abu Dhabi.
Vietnam haven’t seen a loss since December 2016 and they’ve connected an 18-game unbeaten streak since then, surely coming into their first AFC Asian Cup outing in a good mood and hoping to build on it – in search of important Group D points on Tuesday evening.
Iraq will be no easy rivals to beat, though, and after beating China PR and Palestine in late December – they’ll now be looking to outclass Vietnam too as they open 2019 with an important contest.
Srecko Katanec’s men have been scoring more goals on the road recently and they’ll now hope they can build on such records in Abu Dhabi too.
Lions of Mesopotamia have only seen a thrashing loss to Argentina in their last nine outings and will now hope Vietnam will not be the same sort of a challenge, rightfully so.
Vietnam boast a great streak, but they haven’t really been meeting sides of such quality, which will now have Park Hang-Seo worried as his men look to keep up their streak.
Iraq vs Vietnam: Head-to-head
Vietnam have never beaten Iraq in a head-to-head clash.
Iraq have earned two wins and a draw in three matches played since 2007.
Just a single goal from Mohanad Abdulraheem proved enough to turn a WC Qualifier their way in March 2016.
Iraq vs Vietnam: Prediction
We will now back Iraq to beat Vietnam once again and secure all three points in Group D, but we don’t see this as a very one-sided contest as we now stick our necks out for their win & Under 2.5 goals. We have seen them enjoy such matches lately and now hope we’ll see more of the same.
With that in mind, we don’t see Vietnam making it on the scoresheet and their goalscoring woes should prove costly – as we also back Iraq to keep a clean sheet. We’ve seen them keep two clean sheets in three outings since late November and this does feel like further evidence for such a bet.
Iraq vs Vietnam: Bet Tips
Iraq to win & Under 2.5 goals FT @ 2.70 (17/10)
Iraq to keep a clean sheet @ 1.60 (3/5).
