Iceland vs Belgium
UEFA Nations League
Date: Tuesday, 11 September 2018
Kick-off at 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
Venue: Laugardalsvollur (Reykjavik).
Belgium kick start their UEFA Nations League campaign with the away trip to Iceland, the team that suffered a heavy 6-0 defeat in their first group game.
Iceland’s struggle in 2018 continued last week when they were thrashed 6-0 by Switzerland, thus receiving the heaviest defeat in 17 years.
It seems like the Viking magic is having little effect these days as the team suffered their 6th defeat inside an 8 match win-less run.
Iceland are known for their high pressing game, this indeed gives then chances to surprise oppositions with lightning quick counter attacks. But their defense had fallen into pieces, having conceded 16 goals in 7 games prior to the heavy defeat at Switzerland.
We had seen the best of Belgium at the World Cup this summer and finished third in the global competition at Russia.
The team managed by Roberto Martinez were able to keep the good form going in last week’s friendly as well and they were rewarded with a morale boosting 4-0 win over Scotland.
With almost all key players fit and raring to go, Iceland is in for a tought test at Laugardalsvollur this midweek.
Iceland vs Belgium Head-to-head
The teams met 9 times overall and Belgium won all those games.
It will be worth to note that they met just once since 1977, which was a friendly played in 2014, went in favor of the Belgians on a 3-1 ft score line.
Romelu Lukaku was on the score sheet in their recent h2h match, so do Alfred Finnbogason for Iceland, the Augsburg player currently nursing a knee injury.
Iceland vs Belgium Prediction
Despite showing brief spells of their brilliance, I consider Iceland as shadows of the team that defeated England back at the Euro 2016.
As mentioned earlier, defense is their achilles heel and this is good news for the likes of Lukaku and Eden Hazard.
Belgians are known for their strong starts in qualifying tournaments (5wins from last 6). The problems in Iceland could give the visitors chance to kick start their campaign with a solid win.
Iceland vs Belgium Betting Tips
