France vs Iceland
Euro 2020 Qualification
Date: Monday, 25 March 2019
Kick-Off at 19:45 UK / 20:45 CET
Venue: Stade de France (Paris).
French citizens will have the chance to watch World Cup winners in the home soil for the first time in the new qualifying campaign as Les Bleus host Iceland in the second round of Group H tie at Stade de France in Paris. The clash between top two seeds in the group could determine its winner as the hosts obviously come into it as heavy favourites following their stellar showings last summer in Russia.
Didier Deschamps called up a squad very similar to the one which took the gold medal at the World Cup. Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe should lead the attacking line, while we would not be surprised to see Chelsea’s reserve Olivier Giroud in the starting line-up either here.
France did not win their respective Nations League group, but they confirmed a fine form winning seven points from four outings against Netherlands and France. They won four and drew one of five home matches in WC Qualification campaign netting four goals on two separate occasions in the process. Interestingly, the lone draw came against the likes of Luxembourg (0-0).
France vs Iceland: Head-to-head
We should be in for a goal fest on Monday evening at Stade de France judging by the history of head to head ties between these two likes.
Each of past seven H2H outings produced goals at both ends.
Teams played a 2-2 draw when they took on each other recently in a friendly last November.
Les Bleus celebrated a demolishing 5-2 victory in EURO 2016 quarter-final.
France vs Iceland: Prediction
Iceland won’t come into this edition of EURO Qualifications in the highest of spirits. They failed to go beyond the group phase at the World Cup in Russia clinching just one point in three group phase games. They then had a devastating run in UEFA Nations League losing all four games against Switzerland and Belgium in league A (1-13 goal difference in the process) under new manager Erik Hamren.
Iceland always had troubles to keep things quiet at the back against stronger sides. They historically conceded loads in matches with France and we really can’t imagine anything other than a comprehensive win for Les Bleus in a high-scoring affair in Paris.
