Prishtina vs Fola Esch Preview

Fola Esch are looking to match the impressive run from the previous term when they shockingly reached the third round of Europa League qualifications.

The side from Luxembourg went past Moldovan Milsami (3-2 on aggregate) before shocking Inter Baku of Azerbaijan with a 4-1 victory in the second leg on their soil. They offered a strong resistance in the third round when they lost two narrow games to Swedish Ostersunds (3-1 on aggregate).

The draw for the opening round of this season was more than friendly to Fola Esch who are set to play Kosovo’s Prishtina for the place in the second qualifying round.

The Kosovar runners-up had to go through the preliminary round where they went past Gibraltarian Europa 6-1 on aggregate, celebrating a demolishing 5-0 victory in the reverse fixture in front of their fans two week ago.

Prishtina are one of two strongest teams in Kosovo. They won the national cup last year, but the lack of proper experience at this stage of the competition might be a big issue for them.

Prior to the aforementioned matches against an opposition from Gibraltar, Prishtina lost 6-0 on aggregate to Swedish Norrkoping on their Europa League debut last summer.

Fola come into the game in a decent form, following two straightforward victories over Fortuna Koln and Kaiserslautern II in pre-season friendlies. It will be very interesting to see if they will be able to repeat the last year’s success.

As things stand, this tie has truly opened up nicely for Prishtina, but the side from Luxembourg are no pushovers.

On top of that, both teams generally play attacking football, at least in their domestic leagues. The goal-less draw like in the first leg can be ruled out in the reverse leg at Mitrovica on Thursday.
