Finland vs Estonia Predictions and Match Preview

Finland vs Estonia
UEFA Nations League
Date: Tuesday, 11 September 2018
Kick-off at 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
Venue: Veritas Stadion (Turku).

Finland started their UEFA Nations League campaign with a 1-0 home win over Hungary. They will have their eyes set on back-to-back home wins when Estonia comes to visit this Tuesday.

Teemu Pukki scored the lone goal of the match 7 minutes from kick-off and the Finns deployed a defensive approach from there on. The Hungarians ended up with 60% of the ball possession, however, they managed to shoot on goal just twice. Meanwhile, there has been little intent to go forward from the hosts as well.

Anyhow, 3 points of the board is keeps Finland level on points with Greece, the team supposed to be their main rival in winning the group.

Estonia on the other hand, lost 1-0 to Greece, the match also saw an early goal from and then defensive tactics from the team in lead. However, Estonia failed to create anything substantial throughout the match and they were lucky to have lost by a slim margin, considering the number of wasted opportunities by the Greeks on counter opportunities.

It is a mountain to climb for Estonia as they are easily the weakest team in the group.

Finland vs Estonia Head-to-head

  • A total of 6 meetings between the sides in all competitions since Estonia land UEFA affiliation in 1992.
  • There is little to separate from the h2h as Finland won 3, drew 1 and lost 2 during that period.
  • Four of their last five meetings saw only one side scoring.
  • The most common score-line we witnessed during the period is 2-0.
  • Finland’s home record against Estonia is 1 win, 1 draw and 1 loss from three games.
  • Two of those three games in Finnish soil saw over 2.5 goals.

Finland vs Estonia Head-to-head

Despite their low stature, Finland are capable of providing a tough test to visiting sides. They will be high on confidence after the narrow win against Hungary last week, while the 7 match unbeaten run at home is a morale booster.

There is little to write about Estonia’s current form as they are now on a three match losing streak. On top of that, the team is win-less in 5 away games and scored just 2 goals in the process.

I will be surprised to see if this game ends in anything less than a solid Finland win.
