Steffen Schmidt - September 7, 2023
Estonia vs Sweden
EURO Qualifications
Date: 9 September 2023, Saturday
Kick-off at 17:00 UK / 18:00 CET
Venue: A. Le Cow Arena (Tallinn).
Sweden’s ambitions of securing one of the top two spots in Group F have suffered a serious blow three months ago after a 2-0 defeat to Austria.
It was the second loss in three games of the 2024 EURO qualifying campaign for the Scandinavians who can ill afford another slip-up on Saturday afternoon in the Gameweek No 5 fixture away at Estonia.
The Swedes sit third in the group table, being seven points behind leader Austria (with a game in hand) and four points shy of Belgium in the second place.
A win at A. Le Cow Arena in Tallinn is a must and head coach Janne Andersson knows it. He has all the important players available, including Premier League stars Alexander Isak, Dejan Kulusevski, Anthony Elanga, and Victor Lindelof.
Estonia, on the other side, managed just one point from the inaugural three matches in this group. It came in a 1-1 road stalemate against fellow underdogs Azerbaijan three months ago.
The Estonians suffered a tough 0-3 home defeat to Belgium in June as well and they do not have much to hope for in such a difficult section alongside some of the continent’s powerhouses.
Estonia play tight, defensive-minded football as only two of the last eight outings they played across competitions saw three or more goals scored. Sweden demolished Azerbaijan 5-0 earlier in this group but also failed to find the net against either Belgium or Austria.
The visitors can’t afford a mistake here, especially after missing out on the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. We expect them to start strongly on Saturday which makes the HT/FT Sweden/Sweden a great pick at the 2.05 odds. You can alternatively take Sweden to win to nil at the 2.10 odds.
