England vs Croatia
UEFA Nations League
Date: Sunday, 18 November 2018
Kick-Off at 14:00 UK / 15:00 CET
Venue: Wembley Stadium (London).
England take on Croatia in the last game of the group on Sunday afternoon aiming to finish the year in style. The two sides met each other quite frequently of late as the World Cup semi-final tie was followed with another UEFA Nations League clash.
Whilst Croatia did better this summer in Russia thanks to Mario Mandzukic’s late stoppage-time winner, it’s England who left the better impression afterwards in the maiden Nations League edition. The Three Lions shocked Spain 2-3 on the road in their previous action in the competition.
Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford and Harry Kane inspired a magnificent three-goal lead tEngland had at the half time of the mentioned clash at Benito Villamarin. La Furia Roja only bagged two consolation goals in the second half. Can Gareth Southgate’s men back up such victory in their last game the year against Croatia?
England vs Croatia: Head-to-head
As mentioned above, this will be the third head to head clash in four months between these two likes.
Croatia came on top in a much more important World Cup semi-final in Russia.
Their first Nations League outing saw a goalless draw in Rijeka.
Interestingly, four of last five head to head affairs saw goals scored at both ends.
England still lead the head to head by a single win coming into their landmark 10th meeting with the Blazers.
England vs Croatia: Prediction
Gareth Southgate won’t have any significant absences for this Croatia tie. It will be very interesting to see if he will use Borussia Dortmund’s rising star Jadon Sancho. Callum Wilson also earned his first national team call-up on the expense of Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy.
Croatia will also feature in their strongest line-up, but they are still trying to find their game without the likes of Danijel Subasix, Mario Mandzukic and Vedran Corluka who have all retired after the World Cup.
The team led by Zlatko Dalic were winless in three straight games after winning the second place in Russia. The negative run was stopped a month ago when Croatia’s mixed squad saw off Jordan 2-1 in a friendly.
England will certainly come into this in higher spirits and we will back them to claim the spoils at the 1.83 odds here.
