Mariupol vs Djurgarden
UEFA Europa League
Date: Thursday, 2nd August 2018
Kick-Off at 18:00 UK / 19:00 CET
Venue: Stadion Illičivec (Mariupol).
FC Mariupol welcome from Djurgarden in the second leg of the Europa League second leg qualifiers after sharing the spoils of reverse leg with a 1-1 stalemate.
Whilst not being the most successful side in Europe by a long margin Djurgarden are well known especially in Scandinavia and they have plenty of experience in European competition.
It’s been a time of transition for Djurgarden and this year has been their best for a while. They won the Swedish cup which was their first trophy in 13 years and because they finished 3rd in the league they entered the Europa League qualifying stage.
This is the first time in 10 years that they are playing European football and the team feel they are back with a bang.
Meantime, Mariupol from Ukraine made their last appearance at this competition back in 2004.
Mariupol vs Djurgarden Head to Head
There has been no previous head to head matches between the two sides prior to the 1-1 draw in the first leg.
Mariupol vs Djurgarden Predictions
Both Mariupol and Djurgarden return to Europa League after a long gap. The Ukranian’s last appearance was in 2004, while the Swedes were here on 2008.
It is not a bad start for either sides this time with a tightly contested first leg finishing with 1-1 full-time score-line.
Everything left to play for, Mariupol will be keen to make use of the familiar home conditions. But they have to fix a leaky defense that conceded 6 goals in the last two Premier League games.
Djurgarden can boast of a fitter squad as they are midway through the domestic season. Also, their current form is more than satisfactory.
Yet, the Swedes are one of the worst travelers in Europe, having won in none of their last 6 outings.
This is a tricky one to call, but goals can be expected at either ends, considering Djurgarden have kept just 2 clean sheets on the road this season.
