Derby vs Cheltenham
English League One
Date: 28 February 2023, Tuesday
Kick-off at 19:45 UK / 20:45 CET
Venue: Pride Park Stadium (Derby).
Just three days after a six-pointer against Barnsley, Derby County will play host to bottom-half strugglers Cheltenham in the postponed game of Matchday No 11 in English third tier.
The Rams are pretty big favorites in this tie and we expect them to justify the tag bases on all possible parameters.
Derby own one of the best defensive records in the league and we fancy their chances of keeping things quiet at the back here against Cheltenham who have the joint-worst offensive line in the competition.
The visitors have found the back of the net only 25 times in 31 games so far in the season. They have suffered a tough 0-4 defeat on the home patch to Barnsley ten days ago.
Cheltenham continued the negative streak of results last Tuesday when they suffered an EFL Trophy elimination in the semifinal clash against Plymouth Argyle.
The visitors are just three points above the red zone and they will face hard times trying to avoid the immediate return to League Two football next year.
To make things worse for Wade Elliott and his troops, Derby are one of the strongest home teams in the league.
The Rams won 11, drew 3, and lost just 2 of 16 League One affairs at Pride Park Stadium this term with an impressive 33-12 goal difference along the way.
On the other side, Cheltenham have scored only 12 goals in 16 away matches this season, 9 of which they have lost.
Derby vs Cheltenham Head-to-head
- This will only be the second head to head meeting between these rivals.
- Their first encounter occurred on January 14th this year as Derby County celebrated a 2-3 victory at Completely-Suzuki Stadium.
Derby vs Cheltenham Prediction
The gulf in quality between these two outfits is huge and we can hardly see any other scenario but a commanding home win on Tuesday night. Knowing how tough Derby have been at home throughout the season, we are going for the home win to nil as the main pick at the odds of 2.30.
You can alternatively back Derby’s top scorer David McGoldrick to score anytime at the odds of 2.40. The Irish forward has 13 goals to his name this term and he was on target ten days ago in the 2-0 home win over Charlton.
