Colombia vs Qatar
Copa America (Group B)
Date: Wednesday, 19 June 2019
Kick-off at 22:30 UK/ 23:30 CET
Venue: Estádio do Morumbi (Sao Paulo).
Colombia put an end to their winless run against Argentina for quite a long time and recorded a confidence-boosting victory in their tournament opener. While the game was quite physical, the team deserves appreciation for putting down usual suspect, and perennial threats to the title, the Albiceleste.
The first half seemed a bit shambolic, and either side failed to string a series of smooth passes. But the attack led by Radamel Falcao and James Rodriguez found their footing towards the end of the tie and registered two unanswered goals to post three very valuable points on the board.
Qatar seemed to be having a tough time dealing with stronger Latin American opponents, in stark contrast to their usual Asian adversaries, in their first round match-up against Paraguay. But as the game progressed, the Asian champions grew into it and started dominating the pitch.
They were trailing 2-0 at the hour-mark and had conceded the first goal in the fourth minute itself. Almoez Ali, the star performer of their Asian Cup campaign once again turned the tides for his team’s favor and cut down the lead to one in the 68th minute, and later the equalizer came in the 77th minute.
Though the South Americans tried desperately for the winner, their Asian counterparts limited the scoreline to 2-2. Qatar is slowly progressing upwards in the football hierarchy, and a solid performance in this competition, coupled with the upcoming World Cup, make things look really bright for the country’s future in the sport.

Colombia vs Qatar Prediction
Against expectations, Qatar displayed a good game against Paraguay, and it was especially inspiring how they made a comeback after going 0-2 down. But Colombia is an entirely different breed, and the team would find it difficult to repeat the feat against this set of rivals.
These two teams may have never met before, but Colombia consistently takes on opponents who are much stronger in the spectrum than this team and especially their usual adversaries.
The Latin American team won their last three games in a row, and the last one was against the Lionel Messi-led Argentina. The former scored two or more goals in their last three fixtures, and in five of their last seven. They also won six of their last seven games, while Qatar is winless in their last two.
Expect the sheer grit and experience of the Colombians to prevail against the new kid in the block that is Qatar, who still has a long way to go before challenging established superstars of the footballing world.
