China vs Iran
AFC Asian Cup.
Date: Thursday, 24th January 2019.
Kick-Off at 16:00 UK/ 17:00 CET
Venue: Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi.
A clash between two of Asia’s best teams is set to take place in the quarter-finals as China will face off with Iran.
The Chinese will be looking for taking revenge against team Melli in this game. It was Iran that knocked China out of the World Cup qualification campaign in 2017. Later Iran went on to participate in the Russian World Cup in 2018.
China started off the Asian Cup with a win over Kyrgyzstan and Philippines. But the following game against the South Koreans was a disappointment for the team managed by Marcello Lippi. They lost that game conceding 2 goals and never scoring in return. But with a second place finish in the group they qualified for the knockout stages.
The round of 16 matches against Thailand was hard, to say the least. After conceding early they held their nerves and came back scoring 2 goals in the second half to qualify for this upcoming game.
Iran is on a whole another level compared to their opponents for Thursday. They never put a step wrong in this year’s tournament. The experience of playing in the World Cup has given them the advantage over other teams they have played against in the Cup. Manager Carlos Queiroz will believe in his team to win against China without much trouble.
Team Melli are yet to concede a goal in the tournament and are unbeaten too. Apart from the goalless draw against Iraq, all the remaining 3 games were won by Carlos’ men. With such a defense they could easily reach the finals with a chance for the 4th title in Asia.
Iran is the best-ranked team in Asia, and we may see a one-sided game coming Thursday.
China vs Iran: Head-to-head (h2h)
- Iran has been unbeaten against China in their last 5 h2h matches in all competitions.
- Less than 2.5 goals were scored in 3 of those 5 matches and both teams scored as well.
China vs Iran: Prediction
Apart from their group opener, less than 2.5 goals were scored in the remaining 3 matches played by Iran. Even though 3 of China’s matches had just the opposite score, I expect them to play defensively and rely on counterattacks against the Iranians. So a bet can be placed on a score with less than 2.5 goals with 1.60 odds.
The Chinese have found goals in 3 of their 4 cup matches so far. But against the strong defense of South Korea, they were not able to penetrate the defense. Since Iran has been keeping clean sheets till now, we can bet on both teams not scoring with 1.50 odds.
China vs Iran: Betting Tips
Both teams to score: No @ 1.50 (1/2).
Under 2.5 goals @ 1.60 (3/5).
