Canada vs Martinique
CONCACAF Gold Cup
Date: Sunday, 16 June 2019
Kick-off at 00.30 UK/ 01.30 CET
Venue: Rose Bowl (Pasadena).
Group A consists of two former champions, and for both of them, it’s important to begin on the right note. Though the six titles by Mexico overshadows the sole triumph of Canada, the latter is here this time around to make some noise.
They begin their campaign at the Rose Bowl against Martinique. With Mexico too going for the top spot of the group, which will afford a comparatively easier opponent in the next stage, the Canadians will target a win along with a huge scoreline – which would come in handy should both finish level on points at the end of the group stage.
The team has built up a reservoir of momentum, and will be hoping to carry on the form in the month-long tournament. They had swept through their opponents in the CONCACAF Nations League and topped it up with a 0-2 friendly win over Trinidad and Tobago.
Martinique too comes to this fixture on top of a winning streak, but will surely have their hands full against this opponent.
One thing that might be bothering them would be their performance in the last edition of the competition, which saw them getting the boot in the group stage itself.

Canada vs Martinique Prediction
Canada is on a six-game winning streak and scored two or more goals in four of the last five matches. They registered a 20-1 combined scoreline from their last five fixtures. Going on, they were unbeaten in 13 of their last 15 ties.
Martinique, meanwhile, lost four of their last nine fixtures and was winless in five of their last ten. They are considered the underdogs against their comparatively much more experienced counterparts and will be targeted by them to score a lot of goals.
The presence of Mexico in the same group will force the Canadians to go hard for the tag of the group champions, which will see them take on the runners-up of Group B in the next round, whereas a second-place finish would most probably pit them against Costa Rica, the potential B Group champions.
Expect Canada to come out on top after an exhausting ninety minutes. But do not rule out some resistance or fight-back.
The rest of the two teams in the group, other than the favorites to progress, Mexico and Canada, realize that they have no option but to attack, and grind out something for themselves if they are to see a minute of the knockouts.
As such, count on a great fight from Martinique. They won the last four straight matches, and 11 of the last 15 as well. Importantly, they have never failed to find the back of the net against this opponent, in a competitive game.
Wait for goals at either end of the pitch this Sunday.
