Bristol City vs Bolton Prediction & Match Preview

Bristol City vs Bolton
English FA Cup
Date: Friday, 25 January 2019
Kick-Off at 19:45 UK / 20:45 CET
Venue: Ashton Gate Stadium (Bristol).

Championship rivals Bristol City and Bolton Wanderers are set to raise the curtain on the 4th round of the FA Cup on Friday evening at Ashton Gate Stadium.

The hosts head into the match as massive form favourites following a splendid streak of five straight wins across competitions.

They are unbeaten in last 11 outings and have established themselves as genuine candidates for the top-six finish and a place in the promotional play-offs at the end of the season.

The Robins are just two points shy of Derby County in 6th place after a 0-1 victory over Nottingham Forest away at The City Ground last weekend. Famara Diedhiou was the man who made the difference netting the only goal of the game 20 minutes from time.

In spite of a huge opportunity to join the promotional contest in Championship, we doubt Lee Johnson will quit a deep FA Cup run. His men took a Premier League scalp beating Huddersfield Town 1-0 at home in the previous round of the competition as Johnson used his first line-up on the occasion.

Bristol City vs Bolton: Head-to-head

The head to head record also speaks in Bristol City’s favour here.

The hosts won 13, drew 4 and lost 7 of 24 ties with the Trotters.

The Robins were especially dominant at home where they claimed 9 wins in 12 outings against Bolton.

Teams met each other two weeks ago in Championship when Bristol City claimed a 2-1 victory at Ashton Gate.

Bristol City vs Bolton: Prediction

Bolton bagged as many as five goals past the lower-division Walsall side in the 3rd round, but they will definitely find it hard to produce up front here against rivals from the same division. The Trotters were generally struggling badly to create in the final third this season. They boast Championship’s worst attacking record with just 18 goals scored in 28 affairs.

Bolton notched only one goal in past four league games, three of which they lost. The latest of failures came on Monday evening when they fell 0-2 at home to West Bromwich Albion. Phil Parkinson and his men are three points below the safe zone line and a potential failure here would not be such a disaster compared to another drop to League One football.

Everything points out to a one-way street for the Robins here and we see the home win as a genuine banker on Friday at Ashton Gate.
